SURPRISE! The Pantone Color of the Year for 2022 is Pantone 17-3938 aka Very Peri.
Periwinkle flowers are typically purple, blue, or white depending on how they’re cultivated. The plants bloom in March or April (and sometimes again in the fall depending on temperatures) and spread in all directions using trailing and rooting shoots.
According to Pantone, Very Peri displays carefree confidence and daring curiosity that animates our creative spirit, helps us embrace an altered landscape of possibilities, opens us up to a new vision as we rewrite our lives, and puts the future ahead in a new light.
“Tell me more about the COLOR,” you say? Well, Veri Peri encompasses the qualities of blue and possesses a violet-red undertone. It displays a spritely, joyous attitude and is a dynamic presence that encourages creativity and imaginative expression.
This color…packs a lot of punch, apparently. Read on to find out how to incorporate Veri Peri into your home this year.
Refresh is the name of the game as Very Peri will breathe new life into your home no matter how you use it.
The most obvious choice for decorating with 2022’s star color is to paint with it. Paint a statement wall in a powder room or kitchen cabinets for an update that gets you the most bang for your buck. If you’re ready to go all-in, consider choosing a loud, complimentary wallpaper to freshen up a dull hallway, then paint the ceiling with Veri Peri.
While you can certainly do what you feel called to do, using a shade like Very Peri to paint all the walls in a larger room can be overwhelming. If you’re dying to do it, consider selecting a lighter, complimentary purple-hued gray and start there.
Next, you could consider accents or splashes of color. If you thrive on a neutral pallet, adding this bright color in the form of a club chair, a rug, or funky light fixtures will bring a little Very Peri yin to your otherwise neutral yang. The same idea applies if you pair it with natural accents like rattan, bamboo, and light wood tones.
Bedrooms are a great place to bring Very Peri home. No doubt purple has always been the color of royalty. Consider purchasing items made of luxe fabrics like velvet or jacquard silk to drape your bed and windows.
If you just don’t know if Very Peri is for you, but you’re dying to try it out, consider starting out with small doses and see if you can live with it. Select a few picture frames, place a few throw pillows, buy a vase, or some chargers to anchor your table settings. If the color brings you joy, start taking bigger design risks. If it doesn’t, try something else like 2021’s ultimate gray or illuminating yellow.
How are you incorporating Very Peri into your home? Are you going big, or starting small? Let us know in the comments.
