How to Zoom for Galentine's Day

February 11, 2022 3 min read

It’s no secret we all hoped 2022 would be the first year we could really begin easing back into normalcy. The normalcy of gathering with friends, celebrating holidays and milestones, hugging, clinking glasses IRL. Sadly, it seems we aren’t quite there yet.

You probably wouldn’t be surprised to know that 300 million daily Zoom meeting participants clock over 3.3 trillion annual meeting minutes–that’s the total cumulative runtime of every Zoom call over the course of a year. 72% of users are 18- to 49-years-old and half are under 35-years-old.

All that to say, we think we’d be right if we guessed that you were comfortable using Zoom to communicate with people you can’t be with physically (even if you aren’t happy about it).

Science (the Mayo Clinic) says not only do strong friendships provide a sense of belonging and purpose, improve self-confidence, lower stress, and grow coping skills, they can benefit us physically as well. How? Fending off high blood pressure risks, decreasing depression, and improving our overall well being. The takeaway? Friends, especially gal pals, make our lives better.

We want to take this opportunity to remind you that February 13 is Galentine’s Day and share with you some great ways to make a Zoom gathering special and satisfying.

Get the Party Started

We recommend setting a dress code (we recommend even more that comfort be a main objective since you’ll all be at home). Funny onesies, or all red, or matching pajama sets, maybe?

What About the Menu?

As you gather your guest list and prepare your invitations, we recommend also settling on your menu. This way, as you mail or deliver the invitations, you can provide all guests a goody box with everything they’d need to enjoy the culinary delights you’ve selected. If you’re on a budget, send a list with the invitations and ask your friends to purchase the things on their own.

Whether you buy or they do, doesn’t really matter, as long as they have all the ingredients and tools, the fun will begin when you lead them all in a Food Network-esque tutorial to mix their drinks and make their plates.

Food and drink not your bag? No worries. This process can be easily adapted to cover a pajama party, movie night, or spa session. Just adjust your gift bag or list to accommodate what you have planned.

Keep it Creative

A new trend popping up in recent months are PowerPoint presentations. Say whaaaaat? Totally!

Ask each guest to create a presentation on a topic of their choice, set a time requirement. When the party starts, settle in, and enjoy.

With free reign to present on ANYTHING, we know you’ll be rolling by the end. Need some suggestions? Consider addressing why girls rule and boys drool, or what you’d do with $1 million, or the pros and cons of all your exes.

In addition to the presentations, ask your friends to come up with 10 questions with multiple-choice answers. These can pertain to what they’ve just “taught” you, or be more personal.

Answer the questions after each presentation and award the person with the most right answers with a bottle of champagne or a BiteSquad delivery!

We know that it’s more fun to gather in person, obviously. But we hope you can put some of our ideas to use to make it memorable anyway. We’d love to hear what you’d add, too.
